AIDS!!! Its something we try to ignore but it is in our everyday lives. South Africa have a lot of AIDS victims and a lot of people passed away because of how the virus made then weak so that their bodies couldn't fight other viruses. We all know about this virus but do we really know where it originated...
During a research assessment I realized how little we know about this disease and I would like to inform you on the basics of how and where it started. I got most of my research through the book
History of Aids, Emergence and Origin of a modern Pandemic written by Mirko D. Grmek.
Joel Weisman, a Los Angeles physician that is known for his sympathy with homosexuals noticed strange symptoms at his clients in the 1980's. It is believed that the whole AIDS virus originated from homosexuals.
June 5, 1981 the first official announcement was published.
AIDS was first known in New York and San Francisco as gay cancer.
The first two cases of men who died of AIDS in Europe was in 1980
Reading this book made me realize how big of a hassle AIDS caused when it was first discovered. The public blamed homosexuals for it but the scary thing is that later on in some heterosexual relationships AIDS was discovered, which mean that the men was playing around where they shouldn't have and came back to their ladies and gave them the virus.
It’s amazing to see the power of one virus. It was first noticed in Los Angeles and from there on it spread to New York and San Francisco which then travelled to Europe and today it’s taking over Africa. I guess one can say "It is nature’s way of keeping numbers down..." but the sad part is...It’s a living reality all around us, especially for young sexual active people.
